Embossing Nestabilities Die Cut

I have to thank Izzy over at Cricut Community Forum for pointing me in the right direction on how to use my Cuttlebug, along with Nestabilities dies and embossing folders (any brand) so that the centre of the die cut was embossed whilst leaving the border edge smooth. I posed the question a couple of weeks ago, after I cut out a shape with a nestabilities die and running the die and die cut through my cuttlebug to form a border edge and then putting the die cut only into an embossing folder and popping it into the cuttlebug. My border edge was also ended up being embossed. Just like the picture below, not very pretty.

I realised that to keep the border edge smooth I would have to include the die in any sandwich that I used so that only the centre would be embossed, but further realised that the die would more than likely end up damaging the embossing folder. Izzy replied that the only way might be not to close the embossing folder. Well today I had a try and success exactly what I wanted.

Enough of waffling on. This is how I did it.

First of all cut my shape out as normal using the sandwich of 'A' plate, 'B' plate, cardstock, die and topping it all off with the 'C' plate.

After carefully removing the die and die cut I made up another sandwich, which comprised of the 'A' plate, shim of cardstock, embossing folder (fully opened), die with die cut (with the die cutting edge facing upwards towards me), tan embossing mat and again topped off with the 'C' plate.

And the final result, just what I wanted.
Hope you all find this useful and thanks for popping by.

Just A Note

House is so quiet, my son's holidays are over and he is now back home. Roll on May when I get home and will see him and the rest of the family again. This morning had to change my plans as my hair appointment was changed till the afternoon. After getting caught up on paperwork got a card made - just to say sending hugs.

Had a wee play at embossing a nestiabilities die cut so that only that the centre of the die was embossed and the edge remains unembossed. Will posted later on how I did it.

Today's Playtime

Today, I have been playing with candles. I have been wanting to do some stamping on candles for a while and having done a wee bit of research on how to do it, thought I would have a bash.

I used a small stamp of a Palm/Date Tree, colouring it with green and brown. Did 3 images and placed them equally around the candle, this photo being the clearest.

Can see me doing a few more candles.

Art Nouveau Tulips

Managed to get a second card done yesterday, this one an anniversary card for good friends back in the UK. Thought that after using card kits for a couple of days, I would make something from scratch.

For this card I used both my Cricut Expression and Cuttlebug. Cricut to cut out the floral image using the Art Nouveau cartridge and the Cuttlebug along with plain circle nestabilities to cut out the circle mats. Also edged up the green and pink edges with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink. Finishing off with a bit of ribbon and peel-offs from my stash.

The layout was courtesy of Card Patterns Weekly Sketch Blog.

On Your Special Day

As I didn't do any crafting yesterday, had a day out with my buddy, Lynn, in the malls. Shop till you drop, lol. However, she did ask if I would make a card for her as she was going to a christening at the weekend. So when I sat down in my crafty corner I knew what kind of card to do but not what. The verse for the inside of the card was the only thing I was certain of -

May The Lord bless you and keep you
May the Lord make his face to shine upon you,
and be gracious to you.
May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you,
and give you peace

Had a scramble through my pile of card toppers and found Kanban's Matryoshka Love Birds and thought yep, cute. Started off running a piece of white lustre card through the cuttlebug in the trusty Swiss Dots folder and added a wee bow and ribbon from my stash. Added the border edge from the set. Then out came the nesties - Blossom - and cut a couple of blossoms - one from the co-ordinating Kanban cardstock and one from the white lustre card which I inked up with Tim Holtz Distress inks - Milled Lavender and Dusty Concord. Topped off with a couple of toppers from the sheet. The final finish was adding a silver peel-off which I coloured purple.

Starting Early!!!!!!

Having spent the last couple of days doing birthday and anniversary cards, I thought today I would do something quick and easy. For me quick and easy is usually a card kit. So had a trawl through my stash and came across 4 Kanban kits of the same card that I had bought in my local craft shop back home in Fraserburgh.

I did two layouts - one landscape and one portrait - and adding a wee bit of glitter to the fur trim and bobble of teddy's hat.

That's 4 down, goodness know how many still to go. Thanks for popping by.

Love - Happy Anniversary

Today, thought I would have another play with my cricut and this time came up with a Anniversary Card for family friends back home in Scotland. , which I need to get posted so that it gets there in time.

Used the Spring Fever Holiday cartridge and 'Love' option, cut out the two layers on Moondust Paper. The back layers were both sides of BoBunny's Delilah You & Me, and edged the layers with Fiskars Postage Edge punch. Flower was from stash. Finishing off by highlighting the heart on the Happy Anniversary with copper colours stickles.

Have a great day!

This card is mine to my friend's hubby. For this card I took the easy option, using a card set from Doolicraft's The McDooli Clan range that I had lying about and just adding some silver buttons and silver card from my stash.

I demand a recount!!!!!

Was asked to make a 60th birthday card for a friend's husband who will be 60 soon. Only instructions were 'funny' and 'grumpy' and nothing soppy.

The first thing that came into my mind was using the number '60' somewhere in the card. Had a wee search through Crafts U Print and finding a few images but thought this one along with the sentiment, designed by Carol Smith were just right. I printed off the image and used only the decoupage layers and the sentiment.

The card for the mats and number '60' were from BoBunny's Back to Backs Vicki B. range.

The '60' was cut using my new toy, a Cricut Expression 2, and using the Cuttin' Up cartridge.
